Historic Downtown Walking Tour series starts April 7

HENDERSON, Ky. -- The Depot Community Room will start is series of first-Saturday-of-the-month walking tours on Saturday, April 7.

The tours takes place each month through November and depart from The Depot, 101 N. Water St., at 10 a.m.

In addition, the Community Room staff has scheduled some special events.

Here's the tour schedule:

April 7: Artist John James Audubon

May 5: Mary Towles Sasseen Wilson, originator of Mother's Day

June 2: W.C. Handy, Father of the Blues

July 7: Henderson World War I (special location: John James Audubon Museum)

Aug. 4: Flavor of Henderson

Sept. 1: Industrious Henderson

Oct. 6: Young Hendersonians

Nov. 3: Giving Thanks

Here are the special events planned:

Aug. 11: Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival, Audubon Mill Park, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

Sept. 15: Fernwood Cemetery Tour, 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., $10.

Oct. 27: Spooks & Legends Tour, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., $10.
