HENDERSON, Ky. – Although a couple of local growers have gotten an early start, the Henderson Farmers Market will officially open for the season on Tuesday.
The market is located at the Cates & Porter Pavilion located at the Henderson County Fairgrounds.
Items generally available in the early weeks of the market are lettuce, onions, wines, petunias, fresh herbs, hanging baskets, goat milk soap, Purple Passion asparagus, blueberry bushes, Japanese maple trees, tomato plants and various Kentucky Proud products.
Other fresh vegetables and fruits, fresh pork, eggs and cut flowers will be added as the market season progresses.
The market at the fairgrounds is open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through the end of October. It opens at 8 a.m., and vendors generally stay until they run out of things to sell.
Also, a one-evening-per-week Farm & Art Market that’s an extension of the fairgrounds market will return to Audubon Mill Park on the riverfront in June and July, but it's moving to Thursdays. It is hosted by Downtown Henderson Partnership. The event has been renamed the Downtown Wind Down and will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday in June and July starting June 1 (except for June 15, the week of the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival.)
