HENDERSON, Ky. -- Preston Arts Center (formerly Henderson Fine Arts Center) has been closed during the month of January as a cost-savings measure, but it’s getting ready to reopen with an action-packed February.
— Henderson Leadership Initiative (HLI) will host its HLI Forward event on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 5:30 p.m. It’s graduation day for the 2016 class, and to celebrate there will be a reception. The class will present what they learned through monthly class sessions and networking and how they applied their leadership skills toward their project.
This year’s group practicum assignment followed the “Compassion Henderson” movement and encompassed various topics for change in the community.
The HLI Forward Event also will usher in the HLI Class of 2017, the 10th-annual leadership development class, with 20 new participants.
— Henderson Area Arts Alliance will be back in the house on Friday, Feb. 3, with a show called “All Star Idols.” It features performers from “American Idol” backed by the Michael Orland band.
It’s the only time this combination of artists will perform a show together, making it a unique entertainment opportunity.
The show starts at 7 p.m. in McCormick Hall. Tickets are available by calling 270-831-9800 or by visiting www.haaa.org. This is NOT included in the season ticket package. It's an add-on show.
— The next morning (Feb. 4), Preston Arts Center Guild will reprise an event just for kids called “Arts Smarts.” The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon and will include a performance by “Tales and Scales” along with other arts demonstrations.
— Other February events include: A HAAA show on Feb. 21 titled “Sons of Serendip — Song in the Key of Wonder” (7 p.m.), a free “Music Makers Blues Revue” concert on Feb. 22 (7 p.m.) and the Henderson County Schools Art Fest on Feb. 25 (noon-6 p.m.) The Art Fest also is a free event.
