HENDERSON, Ky. —The premier leadership program for professionals and aspiring community leaders in Henderson, Ky., is accepting applications for its 11th class in 2019.
The Henderson Leadership Initiative works to expand the circle of leadership throughout Henderson by identifying, nurturing, mentoring, training and placing a new generation of
leaders within the organizational infrastructure of the community.
Numerous HLI graduates, called Fellows, are now in senior leadership in the community in positions ranging from elected office to boards and staff of nonprofit organizations.
The next HLI class will begin with an overnight retreat in February 2019 followed by a year of monthly classes in which participants are exposed to seasoned leaders as well as curriculum from the Community Toolbox developed at the University of Kansas. Each participant also contributes to a community betterment project both to gain experience and enjoy a
sense of accomplishment.
A one-minute testimonial video with 2015 HLI graduate Anthony Melvin can be seen at tinyurl.com/HLI-AMelvin.
Launched in 2007, HLI graduated 10 yearly classes. Its Board of Directors then gave HLI a pause in 2018 to meet with Fellows from various years to reflect on how to hone and improve future classes. The 2019 class will represent a resumption of the program.

“The Henderson Leadership Initiative firmly believes that development of emerging leaders must not be left to chance,” said HLI co-founder and current Chairman Scott Davis, who is CEO of Field & Main Bank. “The fact that Henderson County’s judge/executive and the Henderson city manager and city attorney are HLI fellows demonstrates the wisdom of that philosophy. We are ready to resume the process of developing this community’s emerging leaders.”
Tuition for 2019 will be $1,500, with other program costs supplemented by monthly sponsors and grants. Some partial scholarships are available for those with financial needs.
More information and a link to the 2019 class application can be found at hendersonleadershipinitiative.org. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 31, 2018. Successful applicants will be notified by Dec. 1, 2018.
